Edited test shots for magazine

These were the best images from my test shots, i edited them all into black and white but then played around with the brightness and contrasts levels of each image. I liked the black and white look as it looks more professional and sophisticated but thought it suited my simplistic magazine style. The photos them self are all really simple with the white back ground looking at the camera or in a different direction but looking pretty serious as i want my magazine to be taken seriously. This edited images will be used for my draft design of my magazine.

Reflection on Preliminary.

My preliminary represents the social group of geeky unique students that have enough time to read my school magazine and be interested in the informational update the magazine gives on the school. My intended audience for the magazine would be the geeks of the school that think its cool to read the school magazine and get updated on the school news and gossip, although some parents would like to have the magazine but some information produced in the magazine may be what parents are not wanting to hear about, but it does keep that aware and updated on the students.I attracted this audience by giving information that they would want to know, whats cool or whats happening in the school, updates on the students or what they are doing at the school.
I have learnt a lot about technology with this project because i had to use photo shop. I learnt how to use layers on photo shop and move them around to having different things on the cover in different grounds of this cover. I also learnt how to use the camera and lighting , using the positioning of the model to show shadow effects. Another technical skill i have learnt is how to place an image once opened in photo shop onto my main project via copying and pasting once edited.

Reflection on skills learnt.

The skills i have learnt up to this point is using photoshop. iv learnt how to resize images or adjust their position once placed onto my work and also how to add a background other then white. i know now how to rearrange my layers so i can have images or text under other objects on the page or over them.

I have also learnt key terminology for magazines such as the word 'left-hand third' which means that important information designed to attract potential readers is placed in the left-hand side vertical third of the front cover page. And the word Market Penetration which refers to the % of potential readers who actually buy the publication/magazine. The word plug which refers to the information about the contents of the magazine given on the front over. Another new terminology word is Masthead which is the title of the magazine or newspaper which is usually placed at the top of the front cover for display purposes.

I have also learnt a lot about photography for example lighting, depending on how much lighting and the positive of the model and camera and differ the show of shadow, if a lot of lighting used from the front the further back to the white screen the model is the more shadow shows in the photo.
